Tranmere Rovers and Walsall meet at Prenton Park on Tuesday evening in
the first of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Northern Area Semi-Finals.
The fixture will come as a welcome distraction for Sky Bet League 2 strugglers Tranmere but they are up against an in-form Walsall side who have not lost in any of their last five.
Elsewhere, there is one Area Quarter-Final still to be decided, as Doncaster Rovers and Notts County contest an all-Sky Bet League 1 fixture.
Rovers welcome County having comfortably dispatched of Burton Albion in the previous round, with the visiting Magpies having made the last eight of the Northern Section with a 2-1 win over Scunthorpe United last time around.
The winner of the match at the Keepmoat Stadium will host Preston North End in the semi-finals.
Southern Section
On Wednesday, Sky Bet League 1 leaders Bristol City face Coventry City for the chance to go up against Gillingham in the Southern Area Final next month.
The Robins defeated AFC Wimbledon 2-1 at Ashton Gate to reach the last four in November, while the Sky Blues triumphed 2-0 at home to Plymouth Argyle.
