Johannesburg is known for its pitch which is known to be a heaven for batsmen. It has seen records like the One Day match with most runs scored involving South Africa and Australia. It saw West Indies chase down 231 in a T20 International match just few days ago against South Africa. On 18th Jan, it saw another run fest today and one man the most of it.
South Africa batted first and enjoyed a 247 run opening stand involving Rilee Rossouw and Hashim Amla. Both scored beautiful hundreds and then in 39th over, Rossouw got out for a well-made 128 runs and West Indies might have had a sigh of relief. But they didn’t know what was going to hit them in the coming 11 overs. In walked AB de Villiers and in the remaining 11 overs, South Africa scored a record 192 runs.
149 off those came from De Villiers’ bat and he only took 44 balls to do it. Meanwhile he broke the records for fastest fifty, when he made 50 off just 16 balls. Then he went on to demolish the record for fastest ODI century in just 31 balls. Even Corey Anderson and Shahid Afridi will have a task at hands if they want their record back.
Amla was on 120 runs and scored just 33 runs off the 30 balls he faced in the overs. De Villiers scored all over the ground. He hit the slog, sweep, reverse sweep, every shot in the book. A record equalling 16 sixes were hit by De Villiers in his innings which had him scoring at the strike rate of 339.
South Africa also made their highest ODI score of 439 runs for the loss of 2 wickets.
Below are some of the records made in the match :

16 The numbers of sixes De Villiers hit, equaling the world record set by Rohit Sharma of India during his epic 209 run inning against Australia in 2013
